Christmas Cupcake Toppers

These Christmas cupcake toppers are easy to make and require no special tools! All you need is royal icing, a Ziploc bag and some sprinkles!

Christmas Cupcake Toppers - Stars

Guys, are you planning on baking cupcakes for the Holidays and looking for some inspiration? Well, here is one cupcake topper idea for you! Like I have mentioned these festive cupcake toppers are made with royal icing and topped with sprinkles. I used simple blue and white sprinkles but feel free to use anything you like. There is so many of them on the market that I sometimes find it hard to choose some!

To make these Christmas cupcake toppers you will need:

  • Royal Icing for the decorations
  • Sellotape
  • Baking Paper
  • Christmas Themed Cookie Cutters of Your Choice
  • Pencil
  • Toothpick or a Cake Tester
  • A Ziploc Bag/Small Plastic Bag)
  • Sprinkles
  • Cupcakes
  • Frosting/Icing

Method:
Outline the cookie cutters’ shapes onto a sheet of baking paper. Once done, turn over and place the sheet onto a large tray or a chopping board. Secure with sellotape.
When the baking paper is secured, outline the shapes using royal icing. Afterwards fill them in with royal icing. Use a toothpick or a tip of a cake tester to fill in all the gaps. Let it set for 2-3 minutes before sprinkling over the sprinkles of your choice (if the icing is too runny and you add the sprinkles too soon, they will sink down).

These decorations will need to set overnight.

The following day peel the paper carefully off. Arrange the stars on cupcakes any way you like.

How to make homemade royal icing:

  • 1 Pasteurized Egg White
  • 150g Icing Sugar

Beat the egg whites until fluffy (not stiff or white, just fluffy). Sift in the icing sugar and mix until smooth. If it’s too thick, squeeze in some lemon juice (not too much, just to thin the icing a bit) and mix well.

Pour into the Ziploc bag, cut the tip off and you are ready to go.

Note:
Bear in mind that these Christmas cupcake toppers are quite fragile and you will have to handle them with care.

Christmas baking ideas:
If you like to bake gingerbread cookies, then you should check out this Gingerbread Christmas Tree or this Gingerbread Advent Wreath.

Or you could make your Christmas cupcakes look like Christmas Baubles! They would make nice DIY edible Christmas gift!

Merry Christmas everyone!
